Source: Supplied A LANDMARK health study has found that one in eight children, or 120 children per 1000, in ­remote Aboriginal communities of the Fitzroy Valley in Western Australia suffer from fetal alcohol syndrome. The devastating findings of the Liliwan Study have revealed the highest level of alcohol-relat­ed disability diagnosed in children in Australia, and one of the highest rates in the world. Comparable rates have been reported in South Africa’s Cape Province region, where between 104 and 160 children per 1000 suffer from FAS as a result of farm workers being paid in alcohol.
